Isleboro to vote on borrowing $3M for broadband

Voters in Isleboro will consider at their May 9 annual town meeting borrowing $3 million to build a broadband Internet network, according to The Working Waterfront.

Tilson Technology Management, a network construction company based in Portland, estimated the cost to build the network for the island at $2.5 million to $3 million. The town’s broadband committee said a municipal bond could cover construction costs.

The service would operate at 1 gigabit per second. If approved, the town would hire GWI of Biddeford to run the service, the newspaper said.

If voters approve the bond on May 9, the work is to begin in the fall.
