Jackson Lab CEO stepping down

Richard Woychik announced yesterday he is stepping down as president and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory after eight years.

In a release, Woychik said he plans to stay on as head of the Bar Harbor-based nonprofit organization until a new CEO is found, according to a press release. Since Woychik took the helm in 2002, the organization’s operating budget has grown from $103 million to $170 million, and its employees have grown from 1,162 to 1,318. The lab has also undergone an $80 million expansion of its research and support space.

Woychik said his goal during his tenure was to improve Jackson Lab’s finances and expand its research areas. “It is time for new leadership to take the laboratory to the next level of excellence,” he said.
