Jobs for Maine’s Graduates

2020 Goals

JMG is student centered and results driven. We partner with public education and private businesses to offer results-driven solutions to ensure all Maine students graduate high school, attain post-secondary credentials, and pursue meaningful careers.

  • JMG will increase its reach to serve 10,000 students annually, ensuring students of promise reach their fullest potential. JMG’s model keeps students connected to education and provides deep, competency-based skill building that is cost effective today, and will pay enormous dividends tomorrow as we prepare Maine’s future workforce.
  • The expansion of JMG’s model through its College Success Program and Post-Secondary Navigators will move the needle for degree and credential attainment in Maine. In the next five years JMG will serve 50,000 students, and our goal is 60% of our high school graduates will persist through post-secondary education and training to earn a degree and/or earn an industry-recognized certification, license, or other credential valued by employers.
  • Through strategic partnerships with Maine’s Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Labor, JMG will intentionally integrate student-centered support services to enroll and serve economically disadvantaged students, youth in foster care, and students with disabilities to achieve increased high school graduation rates, enrollment in higher education, and connections to career pathways.

Giving Opportunities

Individuals and businesses can support JMG in a variety of ways: through volunteering, by hosting students at their organization, and by making a contribution that will impact students across the state.

  • JMG conducts an annual appeal. We receive 100% participation from our Board of Directors and staff; a testament of how deeply those connected with the organization believe in the mission. The next appeal will be sent in October. Please contact Staci Beal at sbeal@jmg.org if you are interested in contributing as an individual.
  • JMG offers several opportunities for businesses to support our organization. Companies can sponsor a statewide student event or provide funding to support a local program or an initiative that impacts their industry.
  • JMG recently created Career Maps, an educational tool that provides dynamic understanding of Maine’s workforce through career exploration and job analysis. Comprehensive information of career opportunities by occupational groupings, by county, and by company, are provided to help guide students through building career pathway knowledge. Please contact Heather Douglass at hdouglass@jmg.org if you would like more information on how Career Maps could lead students to your organization.

Volunteer Opportunities

The ongoing support of the Maine business community is essential to JMG’s success. Each JMG program needs business volunteers to speak about career paths, job opportunities, post-secondary education, and more. Please reach out if you or your company is interested in participating in any of the following employer engagement experiences:

  • Being a guest speaker in a classroom
  • Providing a business tour, job shadow, or internship opportunity
  • Participating in a local or statewide career fair
  • Hosting a program during an industry-designed event (ex. Maine Manufacturing Day)
  • Mock interviewing students
  • Participating on a career or college panel

We also seek volunteers for our annual statewide student events:

  • Leadership Education Conference in Rome, ME, October 15-23, 2019
  • Career Development Conference in Waterville, ME, March 31, 2020
  • Urban Adventure in Portland, ME, May 1-2, 2020
