Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP)

2021 Goals

KVCAP’s primary goal has not changed in more than 55 years – to create sustainable solutions to poverty for individuals, families, and communities. We utilize a whole family approach, understanding that responding to the needs of all household members is the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty and ensure movement toward financial and social stability. KVCAP completes an in-depth Community Needs Assessment every three years. The results are the backbone of our strategic planning process, which includes individual/family level goals, community level goals, and agency/sustainability goals. In addition to providing a wide range of direct services, we partner with hundreds of other entities to address local needs through collaborative efforts and mutual respect.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

On October 2, 2020, KVCAP is hosting its 6th Annual Golf Tournament, renamed in memory of Mark K. Johnston in 2019. This fall you can experience Lakewood Golf Course in full foliage! Our tournament historically raised match dollars for our Explorer public buses, but due to Covid-19, we have shifted our focus to raise funds will that help people dealing with the pandemic. To become an event sponsor or to register a team, contact Andrea Pasco at andreap@ kvcap.org or visit kvcap.org.

Giving Opportunities

We have several giving opportunities at KVCAP. To learn more, contact Andrea Pasco at andreap@kvcap.org.

  • Visit kvcap.org to make a simple one-time or monthly gift on our website.
  • KVCAP organizes annual spring and fall appeals to support agency capacity. Donors can always designate their gift to a specific program.
  • We welcome employer matching gifts, planned gifts, and gifts of stock.
  • You can become a Community Investor! Sign up and receive a weekly email that highlights a specific need when no other resource exists. Our Investors are lifesavers. Their support changes lives! Common requests are for car repairs, security deposits, and medical needs.

Volunteer Opportunities

KVCAP is always seeking new Volunteer Drivers to bring people to and from medical appointments. Our drivers help our neighbors and they receive a mileage reimbursement. Contact Steve Soule at steves@kvcap.org.

Each spring, KVCAP hosts its annual Community Celebration, a free, family- friendly event that explains our services, along with a range of fun activities, including a climbing wall, petting zoo, art projects, a barbecue luncheon, and more. Princesses, superheroes, and storybook characters mingle with guests, and delight children and adults alike. Volunteers play a major role in the event’s success! Contact Andrea Pasco at andreap@kvcap.org.

KVCAP’s South End Teen Center in Waterville engages volunteers who are able to dedicate their time to interact with members, share a talent or passion, or provide homework support. Contact Ryan Kneeland at ryank@kvcap.org.
