Pooches from across Maine and their human companions are expected to show up by the thousands for the Animal Welfare Society’s annual Woofstock Festival in Kennebunk later this month.
Scheduled to take place at 48 Holland Road, where the nonprofit is based, the event is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highlights include a dog agility course, a youth tent with crafts and other activities and more than a dozen food trucks and carts.
“Woofstock is really a celebration of this community and everyone in it who cares about animals,” said Heidi Marston, the group’s executive director. “Every food truck, every beer poured, every dog on that agility course supports our mission of helping pets and their families thrive together.”
Last year’s edition raised around $30,000, according to a spokeswoman for the organization.
Between 2,000 and 3,000 people are expected to attend this year.
While the event remains free, a $5 donation per person is being suggested to support the nonprofit’s mission of serving as a safety net for pets through adoptions, affordable services and resources.
“This year, we’re being more intentional about highlighting Woofstock as AWS’ largest annual fundraiser, while still celebrating what makes it such a beloved community event,” the spokeswoman said. “It’s free, fun and open to all, but every donation, beer tasting and vendor partnership helps support AWS’ work for pets and families across southern Maine.”
The Animal Welfare Society has annual revenue of around $4.9 million, as listed in the 2025 Mainebiz Giving Guide.
Event shuttles
To ease traffic congestion on the day of the event, dog-friendly shuttle buses sponsored by Kennebunk Savings will operate between the festival and two satellite parking lots. The lots are located outside Kennebunk Elementary School and the Middle School of the Kennebunks.
