Former Gov. Angus King has submitted his signatures to run as an Independent for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Olympia Snowe.
According to a press release, King turned in 6,000 signatures yesterday; a total of 4,000 verified signatures are needed to get his name on the Nov. 6 ballot. Independents have until June 1 to file their nomination papers. Last week, two other Independents submitted their signatures: Steve Woods, chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council and president and CEO of Falmouth marketing firm TideSmart Global; and Danny Dalton of Bath.
