A federal earmark in the country’s 2009 fiscal year budget currently under consideration in the Congress would help the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery expand to accommodate future work.
Rep. Tom Allen (D-Maine) and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-New Hampshire) yesterday said they’ve asked the federal government to earmark $21.2 million to help the yard construct a building to service the Navy’s new Virginia-class submarines, Clark Pettig, Rep. Shea-Porter’s press secretary, told Mainebiz this morning.
Legislators probably won’t decide on the budget until the end of the year, Pettig said.
