Maine’s superintendent of insurance denied a rate increase request from Anthem Blue Cross Blue shield yesterday, calling the proposed rates “excessive and unfairly discriminatory.”
Mila Kofman concluded her finding to the state Department of Professional and Financial Regulation by listing 10 revisions Anthem could make that would reduce the overall rate increase from Anthem’s initial request of 18.5% to 10.9%, according to the 20-page decision. If Anthem accepted those revisions, the rate increase could be approved, Kofman wrote in her finding.
The decision affects 12,049 policyholders of HealthChoice, HealthChoice Standard, HealthChoice Basic and Lumenos Consumer Directed Health Plan products.
