The Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce is calling on entrepreneurs, innovators and creators to take the leap and share their next big idea.
The Chamber has officially launched “First Flight: An Idea Pitch Event,” a competition designed to showcase the innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in Androscoggin County.
Organizers say the idea is “inspired by the Wright Brothers and the belief that every great achievement begins with a single idea … First Flight gives aspiring entrepreneurs and visionaries the opportunity to pitch their concepts, connect with the community and gain valuable exposure.”
Participants are invited to submit a one-minute video pitch that answers four simple questions:
- What is your idea?
- What problem does it solve?
- Who is it for?
- What would help it take flight?
Ideas will be accepted in three categories:
- Small business: New business ideas that fill a market need with a product or service that has the potential to become a successful local business.
- Startup: Innovative, scalable, or high-growth ideas introducing new products, technology, services, or approaches to solving problems.
- Community impact: Ideas that create both economic opportunity and positive social impact by addressing local challenges or improving quality of life in Androscoggin County.
A panel of judges will review all submissions and select 12 finalists to advance to the live pitch competition on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Finalists will take the stage to present their ideas live before judges and a public audience. One winner will be selected in each category, with each receiving a $300 cash prize.

Submissions are open through July 31, 2026, and should be emailed to firstflight@lametrochamber.com. The deadline is Friday, July 31.
