The former president of La Kermesse, a Franco festival group in Biddeford, was charged Wednesday with stealing thousands of dollars from the festival and a condominium association for which she was treasurer.
Priscille Gagnon, 70, of Biddeford was indicted by a York County Superior Court Grand Jury and charged with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking and two counts of misuse of entrusted property, according to a release from the office of Attorney General Janet Mills. The alleged thefts totaled more than $10,000 each from La Kermesse and the Western Oaks Condominium Association and occurred between 2004 and 2010.
The investigation was tipped off by a Biddeford credit union employee who noticed irregularities within a La Kermesse line of credit. The Portland Press Herald reported that Gagnon resigned from the festival earlier this year for what she said were personal reasons.
