Laid-off trucking workers get aid

About 20 workers laid off from a northern Maine trucking company are now eligible for federal assistance.

Workers laid off from J.J. Bouchard Inc. in Van Buren can receive federal aid through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, according to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. In a statement, Rep. Mike Michaud said a U.S. Department of Labor investigation found the 20 workers lost their jobs as a result of trade-related losses in the pulp and paper industry.

The DOL’s TAA program provides re-employment services and benefits to employees who lose their jobs because of foreign competition.
