After 10 years on Atlantic Highway in Waldoboro, Tucker Chevy is developing a new showroom and service center in Wiscasset, at 777 Bath Road/U.S. Route 1.
Augusta-based Lajoie Brothers Construction broke ground last August, and dealership owner Tucker Cianchette told Mainebiz he expects to open the new facility in July.
Plans for an upgrade have been brewing since Cianchette purchased the former Harold Ralph Chevrolet in 2016. The current building dates to the 1920s.
“The building is pretty rough," he said. "It’s time to do something, and Wiscasset is a busier town. We expect to do more business there.”
The new facility is significantly larger.
“We’re going from four service bays to 12,” Cianchette said, “and building a 2,000-square-foot covered service drop-off area.”
The new showroom will occupy 5,000 square feet, and will partner with an additional 20,000-square-foot covered outdoor inventory area, which Cianchette said is designed to provide a comfortable shopping experience, regardless of Maine’s unpredictable weather.
“The project cost way more than I had envisioned," he said. "But the outdoor space will have lights, music. I think it will really set us apart.”
The development encompasses 6.75 acres of a 20-acre parcel, which was formerly occupied by a small house.
Priority Real Estate Group, based in Topsham, is serving as project manager and Dan Miller at Bangor-based TAC Architectural Group designed the building.
“The new facility will really position us for the future,” Cianchette said, “as we have sorely outgrown our current location.”
