Patrick Scully, managing partner at Bernstein Shur, says “far more positive” conditions in the energy sector could help boost Maine's economy in 2019.
At Bernstein Shur, Maine's largest law firm, there's optimism that Gov. Janet Mills' administration will see renewable energy in a more favorable light.
“Many of our energy clients anticipate a far more positive investment and regulatory environment will exist under the new administration in Augusta,” Scully says. “We look for significant new investments in solar, wind and other renewable technologies in the near term, bringing increased direct and indirect employment, local spending and associated state and local tax revenues.”
Scully says workforce development efforts in higher education will continue to boost the workforce, in turn fostering small businesses and entrepreneurs.
“Maine is becoming increasingly attractive to young entrepreneurs as a great place to grow their businesses and raise a family,” he says. “From microbreweries to tech start-ups to gourmet dehydrated foods, these small businesses are helping rebuild our economy one job at a time, and the cumulative effect of all of their efforts will help boost the state's economic performance in 2019.”
