The Maine House of Representatives and Senate voted to override Gov. Paul LePage’s veto of the proposed two-year state budget Tuesday, the Bangor Daily News reported.
The Sun Journal reported that LePage vetoed the proposed $6.7 billion state budget, which covers the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years, on Monday. The veto comes after the House of Representatives and Senate each voted to override 64 line-item vetoes in the budget by LePage that would have resulted in $60 million in cuts.
The proposed state budget includes an $11 million increase in funding for job training programs at Maine’s community colleges, a $28 million increase for Maine’s community colleges and public universities and an increase in the state’s lodging and meals taxes.
