Gov. Paul LePage told reporters Friday that he’s considering running for 2nd District U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud’s seat instead of seeking re-election as Maine’s governor, according to the Bangor Daily News.
LePage said he is considering the possibility along with continuing his re-election run.
LePage said that if he did abandon his run for governor, for which he has begun fundraising, he would donate his re-election funds to domestic violence prevention causes.
The field of possible contenders for the 2nd District seat remains cloudy, but state Sen. Emily Cain, D-Orono, and Democrat Joseph Baldacci, a Bangor attorney and city councilman, have both come out with statements that they intend to run.
