The top officials for the state’s labor department and the Maine Technology Institute were confirmed by the state Senate Thursday.
Newcastle resident Robert Martin will serve as the new head of MTI, which directs state grants and loans to companies researching and developing new technologies that the agency believes will help create jobs.
Jeanne Paquette, who has served as the deputy commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor since July 2011 under former commissioner Robert Winglass, will take over as the new head of that department.
Paquette was sworn in today by Gov. LePage and Martin’s appointment to head MTI will await a vote by that agency’s board of directors, according to the Bangor Daily News.
