Lincoln Paper and Tissue LLC will idle a paper machine today for at least a week and furlough two to four workers as a result of weak demand.
The machine has been shut down intermittently for 151 days since October of last year, the Bangor Daily News reported. In March, the company instituted cost-cutting measures to take place over three months, including furloughing 17 production workers, temporarily laying off hourly maintenance workers every Friday and cutting salaried pay by 15%.
