It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s … Friday night lights in Boothbay Harbor!
What’s being touted as Maine’s largest-ever drone show will feature illuminated lobsters and logos of companies sponsoring the $65,000 event, which includes bringing the Tall Ship Lynx and Maine schooner Bowdoin into the Lincoln County tourism hotspot.
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, synchronized drones will create patriotic images as part of America’s 250th birthday celebrations.
Organizers say that the 15- to 17-minute aerial performance will be visible throughout the harbor area, including from the footbridge, as the drones soar to heights of around 400 feet.
Sponsors — whose logos will get their moment in the sky during the show — include Gimbel & Sons Country Store, Boothbay Harbor Country Club, Maine Marine Services and Carousel Marina.
For public safety, part of McKown Point in West Boothbay will close to the public starting at 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early.
