Longtime YMCA leader to lead Boothbay Region chapter

The Boothbay Region YMCA has named Megan Benvenuto as its next CEO, concluding a nationwide search, the organization said.

Benvenuto, who is based in Acworth, Georgia, will start July 1, succeeding longtime CEO Andy Hamblett, who is retiring after 24 years with the organization. She will relocate to the Boothbay area.

She has more than a decade of leadership experience within the YMCA network, most recently serving as group vice president at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, overseeing four branches. She also served as executive director of the Northwest Family YMCA.

Earlier in her career, Benvenuto held roles focused on community impact, fundraising and marketing at the YMCA organizations in North Carolina and on Cape Cod.

“Every Y is unique in the way it serves its community, but we’re united in a common purpose to ensure the people in our communities thrive,” said Benvenuto. “The Boothbay Region YMCA has benefited from strong and sustained leadership over the past 40 years. I’m humbled to serve alongside the dedicated staff, volunteers, and community members who make this Y such a special place, and build on that strong foundation.”

Board members said her experience leading branch operations and building community partnerships set her apart from the search.

The Boothbay Region YMCA serves Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay, Southport and Edgecomb, offering health, fitness and youth programming. The organization reported revenue of around $6.5 million, according to the Mainebiz Giving Guide.
