The hunt for a possible replacement at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland for the now-departed Pirates hockey team has hit a setback as an unnamed possible investor has backed out of the deal.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the out-of-state investor, who was named a potential financier, was interested in investing most of, if not all of, the needed $750,000 East Coast Hockey League expansion franchise fee for the 2017-18 season.
Godfrey Wood, who spearheads the effort to find a replacement for the Pirates, told the Press Herald that after meeting with the investor “three or four times” the potential financier decided to not to move ahead.
