A 340-mile bike trek hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine with 350 participating cyclists boosted local businesses in the town of Norway, hinting at a wider economic impact.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reported that the full economic impact of this year’s bike trek is not fully known, but several Norway business owners said they experienced a boost over the weekend when cyclists rode into town and stayed over night.
Last year’s bike trek had an impact of about $235,000 in the communities the cyclists passed through, according to a previous survey, which also found that cyclists spent around $575 on average.
