Maine BMV rolls out mobile office for rural areas

The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles unveiled a mobile unit in Augusta last week, launching a program to expand services at rural locations around the state.

The BMV4ME accessible unit will administer a range of services, including driver’s license and ID signups, address and name changes, learner’s permit services and disability placards.

“We’re excited to bring the BMV to Mainers where they are through the mobile BMV4ME,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles operates 13 locations from Caribou to Kennebunk. The new van will give the BMV added presence in rural areas and allow it to set up at senior living facilities and veterans’ homes — in effect, taking the services where needed.

Stops planned

In Piscataquis County, the van will stop at the Piscataquis Community Center, at 48 Park St. in Dover-Foxcroft, on the last Wednesday of each month, starting April 29.
