Maine brewers increased output 20% last year, nearly double the state’s beer output in 2009.
This year, Maine breweries produced 7.9 million gallons; in 2009, that figure stood at 4.1 million, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Of the latest figures, Shipyard Brewing Co. made up nearly 5 million gallons, a 22% year-over-year increase, and Allagash Brewing Co. produced 1.4 million gallons, a 36% year-over-year increase. Shipyard and Allagash are Maine’s two largest breweries.
The paper reported that the fastest-growing segment of Maine’s beer industry remains craft breweries, which are boosting production as in-state sales of national brand beers are holding steady or declining.
