Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries

2020 Goals

  • Improve our understanding of the status and recovery of the groundfish complex in the Eastern Gulf of Maine by implementing a “Sentinel Survey in collaboration with fishermen, University scientists and others.
  • Advocate for policy improvements for Alewife fishery by instructing towns in sample collection and assessment of the local fishery to build evidence for more sustainable co-management of the fishery.
  • Help sustain coastal fishing communities through education and engagement of fishermen of all ages so they are better prepared to address the challenges that will emerge due to ecosystem and demographic change.
  • Develop a research agenda to inform ecosystem-based fisheries management in eastern Maine through the Eastern Maine Coastal Current Collaborative (EM3C).

Fundraising events/Opportunities
