Maine CEOs earn less on average

Maine CEOs and presidents at publicly traded companies have received far less on average than the national median, according to a Portland Press Herald analysis.

The newspaper reported that the median compensation for CEOs on a national level exceeded $10 million in 2013, far above the $1.65 million for average pay in Maine.

Executives and analysts told the Press Herald that the smaller compensation packages are a result of Maine’s abundance in homegrown companies, and because the state’s nine publicly traded companies are relatively small when compared nationally.
