2027 goals
Creating new options to support survivors of violence, hold abusive people to account, and create social change to end abuse. Recent successes include piloting a legal representation program for survivor-parents as they navigate the investigation stage of a child welfare case. We also began work on a safety-focused parenting curriculum designed for families where both the survivor-parent and the parent who has used abuse will continue to be involved in their children’s lives.
Expanding the impact of the Liberation Fund. The fund provides direct financial assistance to survivors and their children statewide. Working with our member advocates, survivors can access flexible, direct financial assistance for needs like transportation, safety measures, utility bills and more.
Maintaining strong survivor services. MCEDV’s members provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse, dating violence, stalking, elder abuse, sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Maine’s Regional Domestic Violence Resource Centers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, via 24-hour helplines. They offer services for all survivors, regardless of gender, race, disability or immigration status. Since 1973, our network has helped hundreds of thousands of Maine survivors to be safe and free – and we are determined to be here for the long haul.
Increasing the public’s understanding of the factors that drive domestic abuse – and how they can take action to help. In 2025, MCEDV provided 61 trainings for over 1,800 professionals – including nurses, child welfare workers, law enforcement and mental health providers – in effectively responding to domestic abuse and violence. Our members partner with local businesses, public safety officials, schools, and others to create communities ready to support survivors.
Fundraising events
MCEDV’s members host fundraising and outreach events throughout the year to sustain their missions and raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence in our communities. We frequently partner with those who wish to support our work by running a gift drive or benefit event on our behalf. To learn about upcoming events, follow both MCEDV AND your local MCEDV member on social media, or sign up at our websites with your email.
Domestic violence awareness month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Visit your local MCEDV members’ websites and social media for more information and events in your area.
Giving opportunities
The Fund Safety campaign is raising money for the Liberation Fund, so we can expand the number of survivors and their children across Maine. The Liberation Fund is a flexible, survivor-driven source of direct financial assistance which is entirely funded by private donations and foundation giving in Maine. Through our network of members, domestic violence survivors can access resources for their needs. Visit mcedv.org/fund-safety to donate.
MCEDV and each of our local members rely on contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations to provide the most robust support to survivors and to advocate for systems that hold offenders accountable. Connect with MCEDV or your local center to:
- Give to the annual fund
- Establish a legacy or planned gift
- Sponsor an event or program
- Learn how to support us through workplace giving programs, such as MaineShare (MCEDV) or United Way (local members)
- Host a social media fundraiser
- Become a recurring donor
