The Maine Department of Transportation will eliminate 150 jobs if Gov. John Baldacci accepts its new budget, according to Portland news station WCSH 6.
The cuts are a result of Baldacci’s order that each state department cut 10% of its budget to balance a projected drop in state revenue over the next biennial budget, which begins next July. At the Maine DOT that 10% means reducing its budget by $39 million, the news station reported.
If Baldacci accepts the DOT’s budget, the job cuts would take place July 1 and include 44 layoffs and the rest through attrition, the news station reported.
