Nationally, Maine fell the furthest in energy-efficiency rankings released Wednesday by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
The scorecard — which ranks states on six areas of public energy policy — had Maine among the top 10 states for energy efficiency last year. The state dropped around 13 places (many states share a ranking) in this year’s rankings, placing Maine 25th.
In a summary of Maine’s ranking, the ACEEE attributes the drop to what it says is insufficient funding for Efficiency Maine, which will prevent the program from achieving energy cost savings goals and slow adoption of energy-efficient building codes.
