The Maine Republican Party is planning to push for a 2016 statewide ballot question that would ask voters if they want to phase out the state income tax.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the party needs to collect tens of thousands of signatures by January if it wants the question placed on the November 2016 ballot.
GOP Chairman Rick Bennett told the newspaper that while details of the proposal are still being worked out, it would likely involve phasing out the income tax over time.
