The Maine Grocers Association and the Maine Food Producers Alliance have voted to consolidate, a move industry representatives said will strengthen the group’s influence on behalf of Maine’s grocery and food producer industry.
The newly formed Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association announced in a press release that Cathe Morrill, owner of the Rockport-based State of Maine Cheese Co., was named president of the consolidated organization, which she said will also work to encourage Mainers to buy food produced in the state.
The new association consists of independent grocers, supermarkets, wholesalers and distributors, food and beverage processors and service provider companies.
