Maine looks for feedback on hemp production rules

After expressing concern over recent federal regulations on the commercial production of hemp, the state’s Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry has proposed its own new rules and is looking for public comment.

The state regs establish the requirements for becoming licensed to grow the crop in Maine, including the application process and fees involved. The rules also specify procedures for monitoring the growth of hemp and penalties for violations.

The new rules can be found here.

The state will hold a public hearing about the proposed rules on Jan. 7, 2020, from 1-4 p.m., at the Deering Building, 90 Blossom Lane, Augusta. In addition, written comments may be submitted to the DACF Hemp Program until midnight Jan. 20, 2020, by emailing gary.fish@maine.gov.
