Maine Maritime Academy is one of six state academies to receive a portion of $2.3 million in federal dollars for training students.
The Associated Press reported that Maine’s academy will receive $392,913 of that money, made available from a fund generated by the sale of obsolete vessels from the federal Maritime Administration’s National Defense Reserve Fleet.
The majority of goods traded globally are still moved over water, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
