Maine and New Hampshire transportation officials said replacing the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, which connects the states between Kittery and Portsmouth, will cost $12 million less than originally estimated.
According to the Bangor Daily News, Maine DOT officials said the scheduled 2014 replacement of the 73-year-old bridge, which suffered $2.5 million in damage late last month after a collision with an oil tanker, is estimated at $160 million. That’s down from a previous estimate of $172 million.
The DOT did not specify where the savings came from but said a team — through collaboration with Figg Engineering Group and Pittsfied-based Cianbro Corp. — identified where costs could be shaved.
