Maine realty trends outpace nation

Good news continues for real estate agents and homeowners across the state as the Maine Association of Realtors announced a jump in both sale volumes and prices in January.

Sales of single-family homes in the state rose by 13.5% with 889 homes sold and the median price rising to $175,500, a 9.7% jump according to the association.

Maine’s increase in home sales outpaces the national rate of home sales growth of 11.2% and price changes of 8.3%. Nationally, the median home sale price was $215,000 compared to $175,500 during the same period within the state.

“Now is a great time to buy, with very low interest rates,” Ed Gardner, 2016 president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said in a prepared statement. “It’s also a terrific time to list your property, since there is little competition in some market areas. This also holds true for Maine’s commercial real estate sector.”
