Portland-based mastering engineer Bob Ludwig has picked up his 11th Grammy Award, for “best engineered album, non-classical” for “Sound & Color” by Alabama Shakes, the Sun Journal reported.
Ludwig owns Gateway Mastering Studios Inc., which he founded in the summer of 1992. In 2015, he won three Grammys for his work, which included mastering R&B megastar Beyoncé’s 2013 self-titled album in surround sound, and four in 2014, including a win for the crossover hit “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. He’s won numerous other awards in addition to Grammys including 2 Latin Grammy Awards.
His mastering work involves making fine adjustments to improve sound in the final stage of the recording process.
In addition to his work with contemporary musicians, Ludwig has also worked with acts like Led Zeppelin, Queen and Paul McCartney.
