Maine will get another $5.4 million in federal funds for heating assistance to seniors and the poor through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.
In a joint statement, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said the allotment to Maine is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ decision to award another $453 million for heating assistance funds nationwide. Nationally, the program provides assistance paying for heating fuel to approximately 8 million households, including about 50,000 in Maine.
