Maine’s unemployment rate in October was 5.8%, unchanged from the previous month but nearly 1% less than it was a year ago.
The Maine Department of Labor reported an estimated 40,800 were unemployed last month, 5,300 fewer than a year ago.
The national unemployment rate in October was 5.8%, a minor decrease from 5.9% in September and a larger decrease from 7.2% one year ago.
Maine’s unemployment rate remained just under the average of 5.9% for New England states. The state was lower than Massachusetts (6%), Connecticut (6.4%), Rhode Island (7.4%) and higher than New Hampshire (4.2%) and Vermont (4.4%).
Maine’s employment-to-population percentage remained at 60.9% in October, the 85th consecutive month the state has been above the national average of 59.2%.
