The Lewiston MAINEiacs yesterday made a commitment to remain tenants at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, but will do so without Team President Matt McKnight.
MAINEiacs Coach Don MacAdam last night quashed rumors that the MAINEiacs would relocate to a Canadian city. He said the team has been working with the Colisee and will “build a business foundation here that will make this team economically viable for the future,” according to the Sun Journal.
Months of speculation over the MAINEiacs’ future did produce one casualty: Yesterday, McKnight announced his resignation. “The decision to submit a relocation application opens a door in your local market that is difficult to close,” McKnight said in a statement on the team’s website. “I felt that by resigning my position, other capable individuals who were not so closely involved in the activities over the past three months stand a better chance to redevelop a viable business model for the Lewiston MAINEiacs.”
