Mainer to lead SBA?

President-elect Barack Obama is expected today to nominate Maine venture capitalist Karen Gordon Mills as national director of the Small Business Administration.

Reached by phone this morning, Mills could not confirm the appointment to Mainebiz, but said “this afternoon, around 2:15 or so, all will be disclosed.”

Mills, who is a member of Obama’s transition team, is a founding partner of Solera Capital in New York City and president of MMP Groups in Brunswick. Mills is also the chairperson of the governor’s Council on Competitiveness and the Economy, and an economic advisor to the governor. Her husband, Barry Mills, is president of Bowdoin College.
