In August, there were 145 foreclosure filings in Maine, a 16% increase over July, according to RealtyTrac, a California-based real estate tracking firm. That’s about one foreclosure for every 4,716 households.
Nationally, there were 243,947 foreclosure filings — default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions — in August, a 36% increase over July and a 115% increase over August 2006.
