The June unemployment rate in Maine increased to 3.7%, which is 0.2% above May’s rate of 3.5%, according to a preliminary report released Friday by Maine’s Department of Labor.
It still compares well to June 2015, when the department reported a rate of 4.4%.
Maine’s jobless rate in June was below the New England average of 4.4% and is lower than Massachusetts’ rate of 4.2% and Connecticut’s rate of 5.8% for the month of June. Maine’s rate was higher than New Hampshire’s 2.8% and Vermont’s rate, which sat at 3.2% for June.
Comparatively, the national unemployment rate for June was up 0.2% to 4.9%, compared to the 4.7% reported in May.
