Maine’s largest architecture firm adds strength to two complex practices

SMRT Architects & Engineers has appointed two seasoned principal leaders to head its most technically complex practices.

Veteran Navy nuclear officer Ben Halleck, who has been with SMRT for eight years, has been named director of advanced manufacturing. Lab design expert Andrew Tyner, with the firm for 20 years, will lead SMRT’s life sciences and nutrition practice.

SMRT said these appointments reflect strategic focus on environments including advanced battery technology, aerospace, defense manufacturing and lab research.

“In sectors like advanced manufacturing and life sciences, the facility is a precision tool. Success requires a level of technical leadership that ensures operational continuity from day one,” said Bradley Hodges, president of SMRT.

“Ben and Andrew provide the disciplined, mission-driven oversight necessary to deliver these complex programs on schedule and at the highest performance standards.”
