Maine had a total population of 1,331,479 in 2016, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest estimate released on Thursday.
The statewide figure is 0.2% above the 2015 estimate of 1,329,453.
Since 2010, the Pine Tree State has recorded six annual increases in population estimates and only two retreats, most recently in 2015.
The reference date for all estimates is July 1 of each year.
Waldo, Cumberland, Lincoln and York counties all showed growth, according to Maine Public.
Contrasting southern and coastal Maine growth, many areas of northern and interior Maine continue to see a population slide, with estimates between 2015 and 2016 showing widespread declines across Aroostook County, with a loss of almost 800 people to just under 68,000, the radio station said.
