The unemployment rate in the state of Maine remains largely unchanged at 3.5%, slightly above April’s rate of 3.4%, according to a preliminary report released Friday by Maine’s Department of Labor.
May’s unemployment rate is 1% lower than the same time last year, when the department reported a rate of 4.5%, according to the report. The number of unemployed Mainers currently sits at 23,800, a decline of 6,600 over the year, according to the labor department’s release.
Comparatively, the national unemployment rate for May was down .03% to 4.7%, compared to the 5.0% reported in April.
