Waldo County maker of Lincoln Logs will close plant, cut 115 jobs

Pride Manufacturing, a Maine-based maker of Lincoln Logs and other wooden products, filed a notice with the state saying it intends to close its factory in Burnham.

The action will end 115 jobs, according to a WARN notice filed with the state on Jan. 13.

The plant, which is expected to close in April, has been a contract provider for Basic Fun, which has a licensing agreement with global toy maker Hasbro Inc.

Pride Manufacturing is located just east of I-95 in the Waldo County town of Burnham, at 10 N. Main St., about 15 miles north of Waterville.

At one point, the company produced as many as 30 million Lincoln Logs a year. The iconic building toy was created more than a century ago by a son of architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Pride Manufacturing also makes golf tees, but the closing was prompted by the loss of another contract, for cigar tips, according to news reports. Pride Manufacturing is part of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Pride Sports.

WARN — short for Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification — is designed to give a 90-day warning to workers and the state, meaning the plant could close as early as mid-April.
