A Brunswick-based medical group is being acquired by a not-for-profit subsidiary of Martin’s Point Health Care, creating a collaborative that will serve as primary care providers for more than 50% of greater Brunswick area patients.
Physician-owned Bowdoin Medical Group will come under the Martin’s Point umbrella to better leverage best practices and technology to improve patient care, said David Howes, president and CEO of Martin’s Point, in a company release. Together, the two organizations employ nearly 700 people, according to The Times Record. About six positions will be phased out once the acquisition is complete. Bowdoin Medical Group will retain its own board of directors and physician leadership team, the paper reported. A sale price was not disclosed.
Additionally, as part of the acquisition, emergency room physicians at Mid Coast Hospital who were previously employed by Bowdoin Medical Group will form their own corporation to provide emergency room services to Mid Coast.
