Paralegals and other professional support staff of the Topsham-based law firm McTeague, Higbee, Case, Cohen, Whitney & Toker have joined the Machinists union that the firm represents.
Carol Sanborn, a paralegal and member of the committee that negotiated a three-year contract on behalf of the law firm’s employees, told the Maine Public Broadcasting Network the contract covers around 20 legal professionals at the 13-attorney firm.Â
The employees are now a part of the International Association of Machinists, which has local representation at Bath Iron Works, paper mills and other manufacturing facilities, municipalities and the newly formed Maine Lobstering Union. The union has over 3,900 members in Maine.
