The Maine Center for Economic Policy has selected Garrett Martin as its new executive director.
Martin, currently the Augusta think tank’s associate director, replaces retiring head Christopher St. John, according to a press release. Before joining MECEP in February 2009, Martin served on the its board of directors. He previously worked as director of program strategy at the Maine Community Foundation and as associate director at the Genesis Community Loan Fund. He currently serves on the Community Development Advisory Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. He begins his new job Oct. 18.
St. John, who helped found the group in 1994, in April announced he would retire. Members of the MECEP staff write a column for Mainebiz called Public Engagement, which alternates with the Maine Heritage Policy Center.
