The parent company of the Portland-based Mercy Health System is in talks to merge with a Michigan health network.
The announcement by Catholic Health East that it is discussing joining the Michigan-based Trinity Health will not affect the Portland hospital’s own discussions about a merger with Massachusetts-based Steward Health Care, the Portland Press Herald reported.
Catholic Health East has owned Mercy since 1997 and a merger with Trinity would create a health system comprising 82 hospitals in 21 states and with operating revenues of around $13.3 billion.
Mercy representatives told the paper that merger talks with Steward are ongoing and that a definitive agreement could be reached in a few months.
