Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railways has agreed to pay a $30,000 fine levied by the Environmental Protection Agency over a 2009 oil spill.
The EPA fined MM&A for violating the Clean Water Act and other federal regulations when oil seeped underground from a maintenance facility in Milo, according to the Bangor Daily News. The oil then traveled into the Piscataquis River. The company hired an oil spill response company to work with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to clean up the spill, and worked with the EPA to change its spill prevention regulations, according to the paper.
The company did not comment on the fine.
